Work Experience

Nov 2005 - current Web Developer, Information Services Web Team, University of Kent

I have been heavily involved in many of the teams projects, including acting as lead consultant for a management system that we as a team created. This involved both writing of code and liaising with senior University personnel and other staff as I was the sole person incharge of training. Other roles include completing a redesign of the EISS website (a University department), consulting with departments about their web needs, as well as being in charge of creating a small intranet for the group.

Sept 2005 - March 2006 Consultant, Computer Science Department, University of Kent

In my final year of my degree I was chosen to take part in the computer departments Kent IT Clinic. The clinic allows the students to gain experience as consultants whilst still in university. My responsibilities included chairing the weekly meetings, as well as acting as project manager for many projects which the clinic undertook. The projects include software installers, web crawlers, and online student data managements systems. These projects ranged from small to large, in many languages such as PHP, Java, and NSIS.

Summer 2005 Summer Intern, Computer Laboratory, University of Kent

I was selected by two of the lecturers to spend 10 weeks developing a Java Applet for them to help their research. The applet was based around an online gaming system which allowed the lecturers to gather information about the way people perceive graphs. The games can be found at www.cs.kent.ac.uk/projects/graphmotion. The website was recently published on the Channel 4 games list, and received over 50,000 hits in one week. As well as enhancing the foundations, my main responsibility was to add the treasure hunt game.

2003 - current Freelance web developer

I curently work freelance as a web developer, offering full solutions from design and building, through to hosting. Sites that I have worked on include www.poshchateaux.com, www.poshvillas.com, www.poshmud.com, www.johnsonvillas.co.uk.

Oct 2002 - Dec 2004 Bar Staff, Kent Hospitality, University of kent.

Mungos bistro consists of a bar and a coffee shop. I worked as a part time member of staff in both areas, and often in the kitchen. Responsibilities included looking after the set up of a friday nights events, and managing the working of the bar through the event.

Summer 2002 and Summer 2003 Insolvency Administrator, Central London

I worked in a central london office acting as a PA to one of the partners. Responsibilities included having to manage often very sensitive information, dealing with clients, being a key and alarm code holder, and maintaining the partners schedule. In the second year they asked me to return, and my responsibilities were increased to maintaining their office network.

Activities and Interests

I have a keen interest in all web technologies, and use this to keep myself up to date with the latest developments, most recently teaching myself how to use so called "Web 2.0 " technologies such as AJAX. I have a vast knowledge of packages such as wordpress, as well as software such as photoshop and dreamweaver. I am used to working with Windows 2000/XP, Apple OS X, and Linux (Red Hat, Debian, and Solaris), and am fluent in PHP, XHTML and CSS.

When I was younger, I was very actively involved in the Air Training Corps, and made it to the rank of Flight Sergeant, the second highest rank for an air cadet. At this rank I was in command of a flight (group) of cadets, often 20 or more in size. It was in cadets where I was able to gain my Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well as able to take part in other activities such as the 4 Daagse in Holland (a 100 mile walk, split over 4 days).
